Once you have taken the asbestos sample, the next step is to send it to a laboratory for analysis. In this article, we go through the packaging and shipping instructions, as well as the delivery of the results.
Packing the sample
Step 1: Closing the sample
Put each sample in its own into a resealable plastic bag (e.g. minigrip bag). Make sure the bag is tightly closed. If you don't have a minigrip bag, use plastic wrap and tape.
Step 2: Labeling the sample
Label each sample clearly. Write on the bag or on a separate piece of paper:
- What material is the sample from (e.g. "tile adhesive, bathroom")
- From which farm the sample was taken
- Sample number if you send multiple samples
Step 3: Packing the envelope
Put the sample bag(s) in the regular in an envelope. A single sample fits well in a C5 or C4 envelope. Add to the crust:
- Your name and contact information
- Email address for delivery of results
- Order number (if you ordered from the online store)
Posting
Send the envelope by regular mail to the address of our laboratory. Asbestos samples may be sent by regular letter mail - special labeling of dangerous substances is not required for small material samples.
Posting can be done from anywhere From a post office, mailbox or parcel machine throughout Finland.
Delivery of results
Schedule
Laboratory results are usually ready on the same day when the samples arrive at the laboratory. Post transit time is typically 1-2 business days.
The format of the results
The results are delivered to your e-mail as a clear report, which explains:
- Sample identification information
- Analysis result: whether the sample contains asbestos or not
- If asbestos is found: type of asbestos and estimate of concentration
- Analysis method (SEM-EDS, ISO 22262-1)
Frequently asked questions about shipping
How big a sample is needed?
About A 2x2 cm piece sufficient for laboratory analysis. The sample does not have to be large.
Can I send several samples in the same envelope?
Yes, you can send multiple samples in the same envelope. Pack each sample in its own labeled bag.
What if I'm not sure what material the sample is made of?
Describe the material as accurately as possible (e.g. "gray mass on the surface of the wall", "black glue under the tile"). The laboratory will analyze the sample regardless of whether you know the exact name of the material.
