The price of asbestos removal - what does asbestos removal cost?

What does asbestos removal cost? See the factors that affect the price of asbestos removal, typical price ranges and why it pays to have an asbestos survey done first.

asbestos removal price

Asbestos removal is licensed specialist work, and its price is clearly higher than that of ordinary demolition work. The price is made up of enclosure, negative pressure ventilation, protective measures, the removal work itself, waste charges, and the final cleaning together with air measurements.

Please note: AsbestiPro does not carry out asbestos removal - we are an independent asbestos survey company. That is why we can talk about prices impartially: we have no interest in exaggerating how much removal work is needed.

Typical price ranges

Prices vary according to the site, the locality and the removal company. Some indicative examples:

  • Removing a bathroom (tiles and adhesives): typically around 1 500-4 000 €
  • Removing floor material (vinyl flooring or vinyl tile): often around 20-60 €/m² plus a minimum charge
  • Removing pipe insulation: usually priced per metre or per site
  • Removing a fibre cement roof or facade: outdoor work needs lighter protective measures, and the price is often based on €/m²
  • Minimum charge: even for small jobs, typically several hundred euros, because the enclosure and the measurements are always carried out

Always ask for quotes from at least two or three authorised asbestos removal companies. Comparing the quotes is easy when you have an asbestos survey report that states the extent of the removal work unambiguously.

What makes up the price of asbestos removal?

  1. Enclosure and negative pressure ventilation - the work area is sealed off and put under negative pressure so that fibres cannot spread
  2. The removal work - trained personnel, P3 respirators and work inside the enclosure
  3. Waste costs - asbestos is hazardous waste and its reception is charged separately (see asbestos skips and disposing of asbestos waste)
  4. Final cleaning and air measurement - the space may only be handed back once the fibre concentration in the air is below the limit value

Why is an asbestos survey done before removal?

Under the asbestos legislation that took effect in 2016, demolition work in a building completed before 1994 requires an asbestos survey. The survey also saves money in two ways:

  • If there is no asbestos: the work can be done as ordinary demolition - easily saving thousands of euros
  • If there is asbestos: the survey report defines the removal area precisely, so you pay for asbestos removal only where it is genuinely needed

An asbestos survey costs from 119 € incl. VAT and the laboratory analysis of a single sample 39,90 € + VAT - a fraction of the price of asbestos removal.

Can you carry out asbestos removal yourself?

As a rule, no. Asbestos removal work requires a permit granted by the occupational safety and health authority. The exceptions are very narrow - read more in our article on the asbestos removal permit. Unlicensed removal endangers your health and can also lead to legal consequences.

Take the steps in the right order

  1. Order an asbestos survey or take a sample yourself
  2. You receive the laboratory result and the report quickly by email
  3. Ask for removal quotes on the basis of the report - comparable prices, and no unnecessary work
