Pieksämäki is a railway town of about 17,000 residents in the north-western part of South Savo, on the southern shore of Lake Pieksänjärvi. The town's origins are bound up with the completion of the Savo railway line at the end of the 1880s and with the building of the cross-country line, and the central urban area that grew up around the station was granted town rights in 1962. In 2007 Pieksämäki and Pieksänmaa merged, so there is settlement both in the compact centre and across a broad stretch of countryside with its thriving villages. Nearby municipalities include Suonenjoki, Mikkeli, Kangasniemi and Joroinen.
A large share of Pieksämäki's building stock was built between the 1920s and 1994, when asbestos was a common construction material. It is often hidden in floor tiles, in pipe insulation, in fillers, in roof coverings and in wall boards. Before a renovation or a demolition, asbestos should be investigated.
Because Pieksämäki lies outside our actual survey area, we serve it with a mail-in asbestos sample (39,90 € plus VAT). The sample is analysed with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard, and you get a reliable result conveniently and remotely.
Pieksämäki: when to take an asbestos sample
Pieksämäki is a railway town in South Savo, ~17,000 residents, neighbors include Suonenjoki, Mikkeli, Joroinen, Kangasniemi. Railway-driven growth from 1889/1918, town privileges 1962, merged with Pieksänmaa in 2007. That is why, in local properties completed before 1994, it is worth confirming whether a material contains asbestos before anything is opened up, sanded down or demolished. A mail-in asbestos sample suits the situation where the suspicion falls on one clearly identified material and you want a reliable laboratory result before the renovation goes any further.
Pieksämäki: which materials to check before renovating
It is often hidden in floor tiles, in pipe insulation, in fillers, in roof coverings and in wall boards. Take the sample from the exact material the renovation touches: an old vinyl floor, the adhesive behind a tile, pipe insulation, a filler, a facade panel or a roofing material. Asbestos cannot be identified reliably by eye, so a laboratory test is the only dependable way to tell an ordinary building material from one that contains asbestos.
