Pori is the regional capital of Satakunta and a city of around 83,000 inhabitants in the delta of the Kokemäenjoki river, close to the coast of the Bothnian Sea. Founded in 1558, the city is known for its Pori Jazz festival and its industrial history, and its urban fabric includes both the grid plan of the centre and the celebrated Sixth District, dominated by wooden houses, as well as post-war suburbs such as Vähärauma, Sampola, Pormestarinluoto and Pihlava. Noormarkku was merged into the city in 2010, and its neighbours include Ulvila, Nakkila and Pomarkku.

In building stock completed before 1994, asbestos occurs commonly: it was used in floor tiles and the adhesives beneath them, in pipe insulation, in wall and ceiling boards, and in levelling compounds and masonry mortars. When renovating homes built between 1920 and 1994 in particular, an asbestos survey or a reliable asbestos sample matters, so that demolition dust does not spread into the indoor air.

Because Pori lies outside our actual survey area, we serve the city with a mail-in asbestos sample. You take the sample yourself, send it to us, and we analyse it with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard. The price is 39,90 € plus VAT, and you get a clear result on the asbestos content of the material.

Pori: when to take an asbestos sample

Pori is the regional capital of Satakunta and a city of around 83,000 inhabitants in the delta of the Kokemäenjoki river, close to the coast of the Bothnian Sea. Founded in 1558, the city is known for its Pori Jazz festival and its industrial history, and its urban fabric includes both the grid plan of the centre and the celebrated Sixth District, dominated by wooden houses, as well as post-war suburbs such as Vähärauma, Sampola, Pormestarinluoto and Pihlava. That is why, in local properties completed before 1994, it is worth confirming whether a material contains asbestos before anything is opened up, sanded down or demolished. A mail-in asbestos sample suits the situation where the suspicion falls on one clearly identified material and you want a reliable laboratory result before the renovation goes any further.

Pori: which materials to check before renovating

In building stock completed before 1994, asbestos occurs commonly: it was used in floor tiles and the adhesives beneath them, in pipe insulation, in wall and ceiling boards, and in levelling compounds and masonry mortars. Take the sample from the exact material the renovation touches: an old vinyl floor, the adhesive behind a tile, pipe insulation, a filler, a facade panel or a roofing material. Asbestos cannot be identified reliably by eye, so a laboratory test is the only dependable way to tell an ordinary building material from one that contains asbestos.

Pori: asbestos sampling by post

Pori lies outside the area we cover with on-site surveys, so we serve the town with a mail-in asbestos sample instead. You take a small material sample following our instructions, post it to the laboratory and receive the result by email. The price is 39,90 € + VAT per sample. The analysis is carried out with a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard, so you get a clear statement on whether the material examined contains asbestos.
