Asbestos survey in Vihti

A significant share of the residential buildings in Vihti were built before 1994, at a time when the use of asbestos in building materials was commonplace in Finland. Asbestos was used in abundance, especially from the 1920s all the way up to 1992, in floor tiles, waterproofing, pipe insulation, tile adhesives and façade panels, among many other things. If a renovation or demolition is being planned in a property of this kind, an asbestos survey is a statutory obligation. Finnish Government Decree 798/2015 requires the asbestos-containing materials in a building to be identified before the work begins. The survey is carried out so that demolition work can be done with the correct protective measures and so that asbestos fibres that are hazardous to health cannot spread into the indoor air. In an environment such as Vihti, dominated by detached and terraced houses, this concerns a very large number of households and properties.

An asbestos survey in Vihti begins with a competent and experienced surveyor arriving at the property at the agreed time. The surveyor goes through the building systematically and identifies the materials in which asbestos may occur. He takes the necessary samples from the suspect structures carefully and safely. The samples are delivered to the OneLab laboratory, where they are analysed on a JEOL SEM-EDS electron microscope, a scanning electron instrument, in accordance with the ISO 22262-1 standard. This analysis reliably establishes whether a material contains asbestos and what type of asbestos it is. Once the analysis is complete, you receive a clear written report in your email quickly. The report states where asbestos was found and how the demolition work should be carried out. The whole process has been designed to be effortless for the customer in Vihti.
